Electric Stacker Design Optimization

Transforming Industrial Equipment Through Human-Centered Design

The electric stacker is an essential material handling solution widely used in warehouses, factories, and logistics environments. However, traditional stackers often prioritize mechanical performance while overlooking user interaction, operational experience, and visual identity.

This project focused on redesigning the equipment exterior and user experience through the Water-like Design Methodology, integrating functional optimization, ergonomic improvements, and brand-oriented design thinking.

By analyzing the relationship between operators, machines, and working environments, we transformed the traditional industrial appearance into a more intuitive, efficient, and modern equipment solution.

The redesign aims to enhance operational safety, improve user confidence, and create a stronger visual identity for the product in a competitive global market.

Design Philosophy

Flowing With User Needs, Reshaping Industrial Value

Following the principles of the Water-like Design Methodology, the design process began by understanding the real interaction between users and equipment.

Like water adapting to its environment, the design responds naturally to different operational scenarios:

  • Observe user behavior
  • Identify pain points
  • Optimize functional relationships
  • Improve human-machine interaction
  • Create emotional connection through appearance

The redesign is not simply an aesthetic upgrade, but a complete transformation from a functional machine into a user-oriented industrial product.

01. User-Centered Observation

Understanding Operators and Working Environments

Traditional stackers often have complex visual structures and insufficient consideration for operators’ daily interactions.

Through user scenario analysis, we identified key challenges:

  • Limited visibility during operation
  • Lack of clear functional hierarchy
  • Difficult identification of control areas
  • Industrial appearance lacking brand recognition

The redesign started from the operator’s perspective, creating a clearer and more intuitive experience.

02. Functional Flow Optimization

Creating a More Efficient Human-Machine Relationship

Inspired by the natural flow principle of water, the design reorganized the relationship between components.

Key improvements include:

  • Optimized body structure for better visibility
  • Integrated protective components into the overall form
  • Improved accessibility of operation areas
  • Reduced unnecessary visual complexity

Every design element follows the logic of function first, creating a cleaner and more efficient equipment language.

03. Ergonomic Interaction Design

Making Operation More Natural and Comfortable

Industrial equipment is not only a machine but also a daily working partner.

The redesign focused on:

  • More comfortable operator interaction
  • Clearer control positioning
  • Safer working posture
  • Better visual guidance

The refined structure reduces operational barriers and improves user confidence during intensive working conditions.

04. Industrial Aesthetic Upgrade

Building a Stronger Product Identity

The original stacker lacked a distinctive visual character and appeared purely functional.

The new design introduces:

  • Strong geometric structure
  • Layered surface transitions
  • Dynamic forward-moving posture
  • Consistent brand visual language

The result is a modern industrial product that communicates reliability, efficiency, and technological strength.

05. Design for Manufacturing

Balancing Innovation and Production Feasibility

The redesign maintains a practical approach toward industrial production.

Considerations include:

  • Sheet metal forming feasibility
  • Assembly efficiency
  • Component integration
  • Maintenance accessibility
  • Cost control

The final solution achieves a balance between design innovation and manufacturing reality.

Design Outcome

Through the EQPIDM Design Methodology, the electric stacker has evolved from a traditional industrial tool into a modern intelligent handling solution.

The redesign delivers:

✓ Improved operational experience
✓ Stronger product recognition
✓ Enhanced safety perception
✓ More efficient human-machine interaction
✓ A unified global brand image

This project demonstrates how industrial design can create measurable value by connecting technology, people, and business objectives.
