Product Family Design

Build a consistent design language across multiple equipment models.

Build a consistent design language across multiple equipment models.

01

Overview

Bring a defined group of existing or planned equipment models into one recognizable product family. EQPID identifies shared forms, colors and details, then designs each agreed model around its own size, function and internal layout.

The aim is consistency with useful variation, rather than scaling one enclosure up and down. Shared features, reusable components and clear model hierarchy help each product belong to the same brand while retaining its distinct role.

02

Is This Service Right for You?

  1. Several equipment models currently look unrelated.
  2. Products developed by different teams or at different times have inconsistent details.
  3. A new product line requires multiple equipment models to be designed together.
  4. A successful design needs to be extended to other known models.
  5. Premium, mid-range and entry models need distinct levels within one family.

03

What We Do

  1. Map the Product Family

Review current and planned models, functions, dimensions, layouts, market roles and price levels. Define the models included in the project.

  2. Select Representative Products

Use one or more representative models to establish the family’s design direction and quality benchmark.

  3. Establish Shared Features

Develop common silhouette relationships, proportions, divisions, controls, windows, lighting, colors and details.

  4. Define Controlled Variation

Specify what must remain consistent, what can adapt to size, function or cost, and which approaches should be avoided.

  5. Design Each Agreed Model

Apply the shared language to each contracted model, with its own exterior 3D design and details suited to operation, maintenance and production.

  6. Plan Reusable Components

Where practical, standardize locks, handles, light strips, nameplates, windows and control panels to reduce unnecessary variations.

  7. Unify CMF and Production Requirements

Document the family’s colors, materials, finishes and graphics and check that each model’s production conditions can support them.

04

What You Receive

  1. Product family map and agreed model scope.
  2. Overall family direction and representative product proposal.
  3. Shared features, permitted variations and examples to avoid.
  4. Exterior 3D models for the contracted equipment models.
  5. Multi-angle views of each model and combined family visuals.
  6. Family CMF and graphic application guidelines.
  7. Recommendations for common components and key details.
  8. A family design guide to support later models within the established family.

Client Value

A coherent family helps customers recognize a shared brand across products with different functions. The range presents a more consistent level of professionalism on websites, at exhibitions and at customer sites.

Shared details and components can reduce repeated design, tooling and purchasing work, while giving subsequent models a clearer starting point.

06

Scope & Boundaries

This service covers a defined group of known products listed in the contract, with design work for the agreed models. Additional models are not automatically included. A long-term identity system for future, undefined or cross-category products belongs to PI System Design. Structural engineering and manufacturing must be separately agreed.

FAQs

How is Product Family Design different from PI?

Product Family Design delivers designs for a specified set of known equipment models. PI establishes long-term identity rules for future products, including products not yet defined.

Will every model use the same enclosure?

No. Shared features are adapted to each model’s size, function, layout, cost and maintenance needs.

How many models are included?

The contract identifies the models and deliverables. Designs for additional models are assessed separately.

Can you extend the language of an existing product?

Yes. An existing representative product can establish the direction, which is then adapted and refined for the agreed family.
